    Chief is grown, hydrolysed and made in Australia. Nutraviva's core, highest-volume line is sourced in Brazil and packed in Australia. Nutraviva does sell a separate Australian-sourced line at the same price, so if you choose Nutraviva for Australian sourcing, check you are buying that specific line and not the Brazilian one.

    You want stated contaminant testing on the pack

    Chief states its collagen is tested free from heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides including glyphosate. Nutraviva states its product is free from common allergens and Ractopamine. Both are reasonable positions, but the explicit heavy-metal and glyphosate testing claim is Chief's.

    You want a larger serve of collagen

Chief is grown, hydrolysed and made in Australia, from grass-fed Australian bovine hide, and states testing for heavy metals, pesticides and glyphosate. Nutraviva's core, highest-volume line is sourced in Brazil and packed in Australia. Nutraviva has been open that, in its view, a suitable grass-fed source was not available domestically when it set up that line, which is why it is Brazilian. Nutraviva now also sells a separate Australian-sourced line, made in Central West NSW, at the same price as its Brazilian one. So both brands can offer you Australian-sourced collagen, but with Chief it is the only thing it sells, and with Nutraviva you need to choose the specific Australian line rather than the default.

    What the research says

    Hydrolysed collagen peptides have reasonable evidence for skin and joint comfort, and both products deliver Type I and III collagen at a sensible daily dose, so neither brand is overreaching on the science. The low molecular weight of hydrolysed peptides is what supports good absorption, and both are hydrolysed. Collagen is not a complete protein, and neither brand should be read as claiming it replaces whey for building muscle. It is connective-tissue support and a protein top-up. Visible skin changes typically take around 8 to 12 weeks of consistent daily use. Collagen powder is a dietary supplement, not a treatment, so any diagnosed joint or skin condition is a conversation to have with a healthcare professional.
